CAIRO CULTURAL HERITAGE MAPPING PROJECT
PILOT PHASE

In this pilot phase of the project we are exploring ways to combine and analyze two spatial data sets.  The first a set of highly detailed maps of Cairo made in the 1920s by the British and the second a satellite image made by the Russians in 1998.  Initially we are limiting our scope to the Zamalek section of Cairo, developed as an upper class suburb in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It is still an elite section of the city today.  To view a text description, in Word format, of the pilot project methodology, click here.  To view a PowerPoint presentation of the project methodology, click here.
