Laboratories
The Department maintains various laboratories for research and instruction. Research and teaching in archaeology and biological anthropology take place in three dedicated lab spaces. The teaching lab features an extensive collection of hominid casts and stone tools; comparative human and primate osteological material; and equipment for flintknapping, lithic analysis, and ceramic analysis. The room is also equipped for multimedia projection.
The research lab provides well-equipped space for conducting student and faculty research in archaeology and biological anthropology. This lab features several computers, digital microscopes and digital calipers, and a wet area for conducting flotation analysis and washing artifacts. Space for temporary storage is provided, as is a small library. Permanent storage is provided by a small curatorial facility that includes museum-grade metal cabinets that protect collections.
These labs have been maintained and updated in part by student technology fee grants from the university.
